CF-1 - Cub Scout Den Leader Fast Start
(on-line)
Fast Start – Wolf/Bear Den Leader takes only taking 20 minutes to
complete. This online course is not very comprehensive. Good for a
brand new leader, it gives a quick understanding of what a den
meeting is all about, but not all the detail you really need to be
successful in Scouting.
In addition to the Fast Start, the Wolf or Bear Den Leader should
take supplemental training from his or her Pack Trainer and take Cub
Scout Leaders’ Specific. It is also suggested that leaders attend
district Cub Scout Roundtables. These are held on the first
Thursday’s of the month in Southeast Wisconsin Council.
To be a “Trained” leader, you also need to take the in-person course
C-42 “Cub Scout Den Leaders’ Specific.” This course includes a
module for your position in Cub Scouting. The “Cub Scout Leaders’
Specific” course is offered several times a year in our council.
CF-2 - Webelos Den Leader Fast Start (on-line)
Fast Start – Webelos Den Leader takes only taking 20 minutes to
complete. This online course is not very comprehensive. Good for a
brand new leader, it gives a quick understanding of what a den
meeting is all about, but not all the detail one really needs to be
successful in Scouting.
The Webelos Den Leader should take some supplemental training from
their Pack Trainer, and take the Cub Scout Leaders’ Specific
course. It is also suggested that leaders attend district Cub Scout
Roundtables. These are held on the first Thursday’s of the month in
Southeast Wisconsin Council.
To be a “Trained” leader, you also need to take the in-person course
C-61 “Webelos Den Leaders’ Specific.” This course includes a module
for your position in Cub Scouting. The “Cub Scout Leaders’
Specific” course is offered several times a year in our council.
CF-3 - Cubmaster Fast Start (on-line)
Fast Start – Cubmaster takes only taking 20 minutes to complete,
although this online course is not very comprehensive. However, it
gives a parent volunteer new to Cub Scouting, this gives you a very
nice overview of what a Pack Meeting is all about. Therefore, we
recommend that all Cub Scouters take this module as part of their
Fast Start sequence.
The Cubmaster should take some supplemental training from their Pack
Trainer, or take a district or council course, in addition to the
Fast Start. It is also suggested that leaders attend district Cub
Scout Roundtables. These are held on the first Thursday’s of the
month in Southeast Wisconsin Council. Your Unit Commissioner can
also be a great source of guidance.
To be a “Trained” leader, you also need to take the in-person course
C-40 “Cubmaster Specific.” This course includes a module for your
position in Cub Scouting. The “Cub Scout Leaders’ Specific” course
is offered several times a year in our council.
CF-4 - Pack Committee Fast Start (on-line)
Pack Committee Fast Start takes 10 minutes online, this is a very
good overview of the role of the Pack Committee in running the Pack.
We recommend that all Cub Scouters take this module as part of their
Fast Start sequence, to help them better understand Cub Scouting.
Topics covered include the basics of Scouting (Scouting is a game
with a purpose, and the purpose is to prepare boys to become better
adults), monthly pack committee meetings and the annual Pack
Planning Conference, roles of Pack Committee Members and other
adults in the Pack, and recommended resources (Scouting magazine,
Cub Scout Leader Book, Program Helps, Roundtable and the Unit
Commissioner).
Note: this Fast Start course references the “New Leader Essentials”
training. That course has been replaced with the online “This is
Scouting” course.
To be a “Trained” leader, you also need to take the in-person course
C-60 “Cub Pack Committee Member Specific Training.” This course
includes a module for your position in Cub Scouting. The “Cub Scout
Leaders’ Specific” course is offered several times a year in our
council.
CF-6 - Tiger Den Leader Fast Start (on-line)
Fast Start – Tiger Den Leader takes only taking 20 minutes to
complete. Honestly, I found the print small and difficult to read,
and the two links (Cub Scout Program Helps and Printable Den Meeting
Fact Sheet) didn’t take me to where I wanted to go. This Fast Start
is more of a “PowerPoint-like” presentation, without audio.
However, it does give a Tiger Den leader some valuable information,
including an overview of the Tiger program, duties of a Tiger Den
Leader, involving parent-partners, and the elements of a successful
den meeting. I’d recommend that the Tiger Den Leader take some
supplemental training from their Pack Trainer, or take a district or
council course, in addition to the Fast Start. It is also suggested
that leaders attend district Cub Scout Roundtables. These are held
on the first Thursday’s of the month in Southeast Wisconsin Council.
To be a “Trained” leader, you also need to take the in-person course
C-41 “Tiger Den Leaders’ Specific.” This course includes a module
for your position in Cub Scouting. The “Cub Scout Leaders’
Specific” course is offered several times a year in our council.

campsites, tents, bedding and weather are taught in this hands-on

Council in 2009)
A Pow Wow is a council sponsored event designed to be a day of
learning, while having fun. It is a single day packed with a year’s
worth of fun, games, songs, skits and new information for adults who
want to provide the best Scouting program for their boys.

learn a little more about the Cub Scout outdoor program. This
one-day course emphasizes planning, equipment, cooking, campfire

BALOO trained before a Pack is granted a tour permit and permission
to conduct its own overnight campout. A BALOO trained Scouter must
be in attendance at the event.
